Womb to Tomb Foundation, together with our sister organisation Doula Support Solutions, is incredibly proud to host a screening of this powerful documentary.

MAYPILAMA carries the voices and work of Yolŋu mothers, grandmothers, leaders and health workers who are bringing birthing back on Country and strengthening self-determination. It follows on from Djäkamirr – Caretaker of Pregnancy and Birth, released in 2021, and was created through three years of collaborative filming as part of a participatory action research project in Galiwin'ku, an island community in Yolŋu Country, Northeast Arnhem Land.

Renee and Womb to Tomb Foundation have been proud partners of this project for eight years. Sharing this next chapter with a winder audience feels incredibly important, almost crucial for the First Nations women and babies in remote communities.

This is more than a night at the movies. It's an opportunity to listen, learn, and deepen your understanding of the entrenched inequities First Nations women continue to face in maternity care — and the importance of culturally safe, community-led care.
